We are theatre and performance makers who make work for, with, by, and about children and young people, and our task, our purpose, is embedded in the social, economic, and political fabric of young people’s lives. It is through our practice as artists that we can take the steps to create a turning point for many, including ourselves.
– Sue Giles, President of ASSITEJ International

Our mission
-

Our mission is to promote and enhance access to, quality, and recognition of the performing arts for young audiences in Luxembourg. Through the implementation of various projects, we aim to ensure that every child, regardless of their social background, has the opportunity to discover theatre and to experience the richness of live performances.
-

As an association committed to advocacy and awareness-raising, we defend the place of the performing arts in the national cultural and educational sector. We work to raise awareness among policy-makers and civil society of the importance of the arts for the social, cultural and emotional development of young people.
-

We are committed to strengthening the role of the performing arts in the educational journey of young people by working closely with schools to stimulate their creativity, critical thinking, and overall development. Through supporting and promoting artists and professionals in the sector, we ensure the maintenance of high-quality productions and encourage their professional development through training, workshops, and networks.
-

Our goal is to create a dynamic ecosystem where artists, institutions, educators and young audiences collaborate harmoniously to build a future rich in artistic experiences accessible to all.
ASSITEJ Luxembourg positions itself as a key player in the field of theatre for young audiences, playing an essential role in the promotion and valorization of performing arts aimed at children and adolescents. Our mission is based on core values such as accessibility, diversity, and a strong commitment to arts education for young people. Our strategic plan, spanning from 2025 to 2030, is structured around three main pillars that form the foundation of our actions and guide our initiatives to strengthen the presence and recognition of theatre for young audiences in Luxembourg.
-
We aim to implement a pilot project, such as the "1 sortie culturelle par classe " designed to facilitate students' access to live performances. Through this initiative, we strive to reach all children, regardless of their social background, and to provide them with the opportunity to discover theatre. Our goal is to make performing arts more accessible to young audiences across Luxembourg, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
-
ASSITEJ Luxembourg works to recognize the importance of performing arts within educational settings. By collaborating closely with schools and educators, we contribute to integrating arts into the educational journey of young people, thereby stimulating their creativity and critical thinking skills. Supporting the professional development of artists working with young audiences through training, workshops, and networking events is essential to ensuring the quality and impact of the productions for young audiences in Luxembourg.

The Board and the Executive Director
-
“Children's right to arts and culture is too often treated as a privilege rather than the fundamental right it truly is. For me, working in theatre for young audiences is a way of making that right real — because a child with access to imagination and open minds grows into an adult who knows how to care for others.”
-
Singer, performer, musical director
I believe children deserve encounters with art that move them emotionally long before they learn how to explain those feelings in words. A song, a voice, a shared moment in a theatre can make a child feel seen, connected, and curious about others. That’s why being part of ASSITEJ Luxembourg matters to me: supporting young audiences means creating spaces where imagination, empathy, and expression can grow — and where the next generation learns that art belongs to them and they belong to art too.
-
Production manager
“Investing time and energy into all things young audience related, is time and energy invested in future audience members, artists and open minds in general. Being part of an international organization that focuses on children and their interests in the arts will bear fruits not only for local communities but also work towards a better understanding of what makes our audiences tick and helping artists develop a keener sense of young audience artistic approaches will benefit the whole cultural offer in Luxembourg in the long run.”
-
Storyteller, Theater & Education, Performer
“I am convinced that cultural participation can empower children and young people and give them access to their emotions – for me, a key to a more supportive and inclusive society.”
-
Deputy Head of the Culture, Residencies & Heritage Department @ neimënster
My involvement with Assitej stems from both my profession and my personal convictions. Nothing gives me as much meaning as working with young audiences. Seeing children spellbound, their eyes fixed on the stage, is one of the most beautiful aspects of the human experience, and it is important that every child should be able to experience it.
-
Director, choreographer, performer
“I want to advocate for excellent arts programs for children, as well as for inclusion both on stage and in the audience.”
-
Drama in education teacher
“As a member of ASSITEJ Luxembourg, I contribute to the development and promotion of theatre and performing arts for young audiences in Luxembourg. As a theatre pedagogue, I am committed to fostering individual, social, and aesthetic competencies, reflecting my dedication to artistic education and social inclusion through culture.”
-
Actress & theatre educator
“As a freelance artist in performing arts for young audiences, it is very important to me to be actively involved as a board member of ASSITEJ, advocating—particularly at the national level—for the recognition, development, and visibility of the field, while connecting with peers nationally and internationally.”
-
Project Coordinator (Coordinator of artist residencies in schools)
“I’m a member of ASSITEJ Luxembourg because I strongly believe that every child and young person has the right to access culture, artistic expression, and participation in cultural life. I am convinced by the transformative power of art and cultural participation to create spaces for dialogue, expression, and a more democratic and inclusive society, and I want to contribute, together with the members of ASSITEJ, to ensuring that this right is respected and made accessible to all.”
-
Choreographer and Artistic Director
“I join ASSITEJ Luxembourg because I believe that art, when offered from the earliest age, becomes a shared language that shapes the way we see the world and opens up possibilities. The perspective of children and young people is precious: it illuminates our practices, challenges our certainties, and reminds us of what truly matters. Taking part in nurturing this relationship between art and youth feels, for me, like a deeply natural commitment.”
